I Decided to Run A Marathon and My Writing Motivation Has Soared

Tags:

After a three year break, I decided to run another marathon. My first marathon had me training during the hot summer months. Now I am faced with the opposite extreme - I live in Massachusetts and it's been really cold!

Have any of you trained for a marathon in the winter?

One of the things that is a big concern for me is hypothermia. Exercising in the cold makes you susceptible to it because your sweat could freeze against your skin. Proper clothing helps - Yay Shopping! - but it's still something that I need to prepare for.

I think the training is starting at the right time. Perhaps it will help keep the pounds off during the holidays. Smiling

And it seems that all the running I've been doing has been inspiring me to write more and spend more time on my business. I don't think I could have set the goal that I did this month if I weren't running. It motivates me in all aspects of my life.

I've heard this from a lot of people

They start playing tennis, they hike, they run, and even though it takes a while to get in shape, they work through the sore muscles and end up feeling rather on top of the world. Glad this is working for you!

Good for you, koheuther

That's a worthy goal. Hope you find the way to train without freezing in the process.

Lol thanks - me too. Of

Do you have any stairs in your house, Koheuther?

We have a set of only 7 stairs, but during the winter, if I can't go out for exercise, I do 5-10 sets of up and down my 7 stairs at different times during the day. Others might be able to do more at a time, but I'm old enough that 5 times 5 times a day gets my blood pumping. Since I have been doing that, I find I have much more energy.

I keep a small notepad on a table by the stairs and make a mark each time I complete a set so that I don't cheat and try to convince myself that I am done for the day before I have done at least 5 sets. If I do more, then I can really be proud of myself. (Other family members are diligent about checking the pad and reminding me if I am slacking off.)

That's a good idea! It's nice that your family is involved and that you're consistent with it. Consistency, I've realized, is the most important thing.
