"Can a sensitive pig survive the stress of life in the Big Apple?" asks the blurb in the Baker & Taylor catalogue ad for performer Jimmy Buffett's new book.
Swine Not?, written by Buffett and illustrated by Helen Bransford, is due out May 13 from Little, Brown and Company, 256pp, and already #63 in books at Amazon during pre-order.
In Swine Not? a Southern Family (why is it always a Southern Family?), travels to New York with its pet pig Rumpy, checks in to a posh hotel with a "no pets" policy, and the fun begins. The pig is clever, but so is the hotel chef who's imagining pork roast!
Inspired by the trials and tribulations of Bransford's real pet pig named Forky who must often live under cover and sneak around, the book includes these lines from experience:
"A home that’s occupied by pigs
Is nothing like the normal digs
Its system must incorporate
A crazed-with-hunger vertebrate
A thing routinely left intact
Might well become a piggy snack."
It appears that this book is really going to bring home the bacon.
